He'll tell that to anyone; he'll even tell them he's a pawnbroker and landlord. What he does is public knowledge. He makes deals, if you like.

Granny: Mr. Gold. He owns this place.

Granny: No, the town.

Mr. Gold walks with a limp, and always carries a black hardwood cane. He is always impeccably dressed in one of seemingly dozens of perfectly tailored suits. He speaks with a faint Scottish accent, and he is almost always soft-spoken, well-mannered, and willing to make a deal with even the most desperate souls.

The name Rumpelstiltskin? Whatever made you think of that, dearie?
